I decided to buy the soundtrack before I even booked to see the show (usually its the other way round). I was not let down by the songs as each track is catchier than the previous.

For anyone who doesnt know the story of Avenue Q, it is set on the street of Avenue Q and about the residents who live there. There is a young graduate, Princeton (puppet) who is looking for his purpose in life and along the way meets the love of his life, Kate Monster. There are two best friends, Nicky and Rod (both puppets), who share a flat together. Trekkie Monster, who has a particular hobby to be discussed later one, and Brian and his finance Christmas Eve (both humans). There is also the Superintendent, Gary Coleman, yes the childhood actor from Different Strokes (though not really the Gary Coleman, but an actor portraying him - sorry to disappoint you). Along the way we also meet the puppets, Lucy the Slut and the two Bad Ideas Bear, who are cute, but a bad influence on the others.

The writers of Avenue Q were not afraid to discuss sensitive subjects such as the song, Everyones a Little Bit Racist, which rightly points out that we are all slightly racist in everyday things that we do/think. The issue of sexuality is also raised with the character Rod, who at first denies being gay. The song If You Were Gay is about Nicky subtly telling Rod that it would be okay if you were gay, with Rod denying he is gay and even makes up a fictious girlfriend with the hilarious song, My Girlfriend, Who Lives in Canada.

Who would have ever thought that a musical soundtrack would have puppets making love. Well Avenue Q has just that with the song, You Can Be as Loud as the Hell You Want (When You`re Makin` Love), and it is one of the longest titled songs on the CD!

Also, the subject of porn is raised (quite frequently) when Trekkie Monster is around as this is his favourite past time. The song, The Internet Is For Porn is very funny and clever, as the innocent subject of the internet soon turns into a tribute to porn on the internet.

Every time I listen to the track, Schadenfreude, it makes me smile as it is about laughing at other people misfortunes. Okay, this may sound sadistic, but it is hilarious with such lyrics as, do you ever laugh when a waitress falls and drops a tray of glasses etc.

Avenue Q not only has humour but there are some also sad moments, for example the song, Fine Fine Line, which is about splitting up with the love of your life.

Since buying the soundtrack I have seen the stage show of Avenue Q three times and have booked to go a couple more times before the current cast leave. If you want to be entertained and get a CD that you wont be able to stop playing (trust me I lis View Less
