According to the original sleeve notes, ‘The somewhat low and twisted songs on this record are the mutterings of the
leader of the Victorian ‘beat’ generation – the original frustrated old man.
The musical arrangements, which are the best thing on the record, are by Dennis Wilson, who also plays the piano,
conducts the orchestra and sweeps up the studio. It would probably have been better if he’s also sung the songs.’
Despite this endorsement, Tries Again was another Top 20 success.
