Synopsis: This innovative musical began its life as a sweet musical take on the life of King Charlemagne`s eldest son, until the producer handed it to Bob Fosse. The decadent 1972 staging eventually won five Tony awards -- including best direction and choreography for Fosse. This 1981 version -- new to DVD -- was videotaped live in Ontario and features Vereen reprising the Tony-worthy performance that set his career on fire. William Katt, who here plays the curly-haired heir and title character, went on to television fame for a year or so as the star of The Greatest American Hero.
